Post Covid Diseases and Essential Oils

post

Covid has been the community trial of the last 50 years. The Social isolation that we were all exposed to  breeds insecurities, anxiety, resentments, passive attitudes, aggression, depression, poor sleep, and so on.

Moreover, we are all social creatures. Both introverts and extroverts are social creatures. Being cut off from social interactions will encourage the introvert to hole up and get more introverted, while the extrovert will start acting out looking for a source of energy.

As we came out of quarantine, we all noticed that a lot of kids were manifesting separation anxiety. But, did you notice that a lot of adults were going through the same thing?

Separation anxiety in adults manifests as irritability, lack of focus, insecurities, anxiety, arguments over issues that were not issues before, increased bickering and picking on one another.

“John and I have had to do an inward look and evaluate our own insecurities, anxieties, and vulnerabilities. It’s not easy doing a deep dive within oneself and really being honest with what is going on. It’s even harder sharing it with your partner. Introspection is step one towards regaining control. It’s time for all of us to take a closer look at the aftermath, allow healing to happen, and regain control of our better selves.” Says Dr. Ana Temple who’s original post granted this article.

Where do we start? – For our family in Blai Sales Covid brought a plethora of bad habits, too many snacks and mindless eating, little exercise, too many devices ON all the time and even though we were all under the same roof, everyone found a spot and stays in there doing their own thing limiting the actual interactions. We even lost our habit of sharing meals together.

Anxiety manifested in the fights about the mess, the overconsumption, the boredom, the what ifs and an entrance for a solution and research gave us essential oils and aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a science and is currently used in many hospitals to control anxiety and pain generated by the treatment of other diseases like post surgery.  At home for insomnia, lack of energy, cleaning supplies and so on..  The oils are extracted by steam distillation from plants, flowers and roots and in a concentrated form we can obtain benefits from them. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain.

Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin. A massage therapist might add a drop or two of wintergreen to oil to help relax tight muscles during a rubdown. A  skincare company may add lavender to bath salts to create a soothing soak

Most commonly used and known are lavender, peppermint and lemon also tea tree or melaleuca.

If you find yourself feeling anxious about life in general, perhaps trying essential oils and researching some of its benefits will leave you as surprised as I was at the power of nature.
